Stricter law soon to protect women: Tauqeer

Karachi,  Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, Sindh Minister for Women Development said a stricter law against domestic violence will be enacted to provide protection to women in the province.

She was chairing a consultative meeting with women parliamentarians on Wednesday at Committee Room at Sindh Assembly Building. The meeting was held by Directorate of Women Development, Government of Sindh and (LWP-SWE) Aurat Foundation on  Domestic Violence Bill 2012 .

The meeting was also attended by Shehla Raza, Hamida Shah, Humira Aalwani, Shama Mithani, Kulsom Chandio and Dr. Sarwat.

Tauqeer Fatima was of the view that women empowerment is the vision of all leaders of the mainstream parties; therefore, it such law be soon get passed unanimously in Sindh Assembly.

She said there are abundant of laws ensuring rights of women but sadly, not illiterate women but also well educated and even some women MPAs were not aware of them so that they can avail.

She asserted,  We want a stricter law ensuring rights of women disregarding what language she speaks and from where she belongs .

She clarified the laws against domestic violence did not mean that anybody could violate our eastern values  rather we want to protect women form domestic violence without harming our culture  she added.

While talking to PPI Tauqeer Fatima said that women are not also being victim of domestic violence in rural areas but also face such violence in big cities, mostly they face mental torture.

The meeting agreed that illiteracy was the basic reason behind growing incidents of domestic violence.
